This video shows how heather stems are collected, dyed and compressed to create the hard, colourful blocks that are the basic material for heathergems products.
Heathergems jewellery is made from compressed heather stems sustainably harvested in the highlands of Scotland. The stems are compressed and dyed to create a hard, colourful and durable material for creating jewellery. Andy has perfected a way of turning the heather into pens which are displayed and marketed through Heathergems own outlet in Pitlochry, Scotland. These pens are also available direct from Andy through The Black Barn Gallery. See the Heathergems video below which explains how the heather stems are processed into jewellery.
These pens are made from old whisky casks that have reached the end of their lives. The wood is supplied by the Speyside Cooperage and the pens come with a certificate of authenticity. Andy uses the minimum amount of treatment to the wood to preserve the original scent of the whisky
